Motorbiking

"Biker" for me usually means motorbiking, though I also have a couple of mountain-bikes... see Trail Bike

My current motorbikes are a Honda CBR600RR ABS 2017 and a Kawasaki Ninja Z250SL.

Previously I have owned: Kawasaki ZX4-RR (Ninja anniversary edition), Honda CRF300 Rally, Honda CBR600RR 2005, Honda CBR600FW, Honda VF750F, Yamaha FJ600, Suzuki GSX750EX, Yamaha FJ750, Yamaha XJ900, Kawasaki Z750 and I passed my riding test on my Kawasaki KH250.

Route de la Bonette

Route de la Bonette

A cracking morning on the highest paved through-road in Europe, the brilliant Route de la Bonette, which gets to 2802 m. as it runs round the Cime de la Bonette between the Alpes-de-Haut-Provence and the Alpes Martimes.
Cold but clear at the top, ice warning on the dash; motorbikers, sports cars and just a few doughty cyclists taking in the views from Savoie to the Mediterranean Alps.
The road was crowded out at one point with a swarm of three dozen bikes from the BMW Moto Club France. #BMWMCF

GS1200 in a big van

GS1200 in a big van

Two big bikes loaded in a van on their way back to Niederösterreich from the Provence Alps. This is a high-top, long-wheelbase van. Each 250 kg bike was wheeled up the ramps using the bike’s drive and strapped in to the van’s fixing points. The paniers were reinstalled after fixing the bikes. Note the bracing bar across the rear door for strapping down the ramps and further items.
Note these riders have chosen to strap their bikes by the accessory bars whilst on the centre stands. This is unlike the usual practice on ferries of putting the bike on the side-stand with a web strap tight across the seat, pulling the bike down on its suspension; the two wheels and side-stand make a strong tripod. Personally, I’d do both, as the motion of the van is likely to be more violent than a ferry.

Ride to the Solway Firth beach

Ride to the Solway Firth beach

Ride on my CRF300 Rally to the Solway Firth beach, the North Cumbria Riviera that is warmed by the Gulf Stream.
Fully kitted now with AGV helmet, TCX boots, Dainese ventilated jeans and RST rally jacket.

Cold Fell, West Cumbria

Stop to admire the view down to the Irish Sea from Cold Fell in the Western Lake District. Lots of Neolithic remains up here so I was careful to ride only on the track.

En route from Marseille to the Alps

I'm riding light for a week on the mountain roads of the Alps. No laptop, although I do have my SLR camera but photos will have to wait till I'm back in Marseille..

I left Marseille for a long ride north via the Col de la Croix Haute (1179 m.) to Saint-Gervais under Mont Blanc. A bit of rain towards the end of the day which cleaned the Provence dust off my white leathers and boots but didn't soak me through.
